Taken By Surprise, Again
I've again bumped into this movie, Hotel Rawanda, and I recommend it to all, even to be seen by your older kids (high school age). It is an intense, disturbing, and somewhat awful movie about exactly such intense awfulness that occurs in our world...such stuff that our government (and media) hides from us in an effort to sanitize their own actions taking place in our name in places like Iraq, Aftganistan, Central America (and the list goes on). What can I do? That is the question that is heard as arms fly up and we just go about our business (daily lives that are real and sometimes difficult). What can I do? Simple. Scatch a bit below the surface. Turn off the big networks. Question the daily rabble of advertisement masking as news and information. Talk to your family and friends, have conversations, get to know the wide range of opinions that they have. And, among many more things, ask why.
